Source: EU officials agree to prolong anti-Russian sanctions

BRUSSELS, Sep 5 (PRIME) -- Permanent representatives to the E.U. have approved prolonging individual sanctions against Russia that are due to end on September 15 for another six months, a source in the E.U. told reporters on Wednesday.

Diplomats from the E.U. states agreed to prolong the sanctions on Monday. The sanctions are yet to be approved by the E.U. Council.

In 2014, relations between Russia and the West deteriorated to their worse since the Cold War due to a military conflict in Ukraine. The West introduced sanctions against some Russian individuals and firms and further against the energy and banking sectors. In response, Russia limited food imports from some countries, including the U.S., the E.U., Canada, Australia, and Norway.
